Berry Picking Near Melbourne

Just an hour outside of the CBD located in the quaint country town of Silvan, the family owned and run Blue Hills Berries and Cherries farm offers people the opportunity to browse the farm and pick berries to your hearts content!

The fun and novelty of picking your own fruit is huge if it's not something you're doing on the regular. Blue Hill has a huge range on offer including blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, loganberries, youngberries and boysenberries. Peak fruit season is in the middle of summer, so it's strongly recommended that you wear comfortable footwear and sun smart attire. If you're like me, you can definitely get away with some sandals, a cute dress and a straw hat (bc cute AND practical).

You pay a $10 entry fee which covers all the berries you'd like to eat while you're on the farm, and then fruit is purchased at a very affordable price per kg.

We picked a large punnet each of mixed berries, but saw people literally filling entire buckets, so it's really up to you how much you want to take home. The fruit is some of the best I've ever had in my life, so sweet and juicy. Pro tip - if you're looking for fruit in bushes (eg blackberries) be sure to look up high, down low and deep into the bush, as these places are often over looked and it's where we found the biggest, ripest fruit.

I've included a recipe below that i use to make raspberry coulis, you could tweak to use with any berry though!

Would you ever go berry picking?
